We are accepting new student applications for Guided by Kids 2020/2021!
We will start with online instruction via Zoom teleconferencing on December 10, 2020 but we hope to be able to return to in-person learning at the Kroc Center sometime in 2021, if conditions improve.
Fred Robertson, retired speech and debate coach, and a member of the National Speech and Debate Association Coaches Hall of Fame, directs Guided by Kids and co-teaches all classes with Payton Shudak, a former Nebraska state champion debater and national competition qualifier. They look forward to another year of challenging and fun learning with great students!
We plan to be ready for local middle school speech and debate competitions in the spring of 2021, whether they can be in-person or if they need to be conducted virtually. Ms. Shudak and Mr. Robertson completed last year's instruction via Zoom teleconferencing and will start in the same format this year. If we need to continue to teach and learn together in that mode, we will do so with the same commitment we have always had to quality instruction.
If you were a member of Guided by Kids and finished last year doing your best when we had to switch to virtual learning in March-- and if you remain in grades 5-8 this school year--Mr. Robertson will be contacting you and your parents about re-joining. There is no need to redo an application. You can simply reply "Yes, I want to continue to be in Guided by Kids" when you get your email/phone call.
But if you are someone who wants to join, you will need to complete and submit an application (just go to the application tab at www.guidedbykids.org) by November 12, 2020 for the Guided by Kids Board of Directors to review before acceptance. We will limit total membership to 20 students so do your best writing on your application, please.
Guided by Kids gives you a great opportunity to learn, to compete, and to become a better person! Consider joining us this year!
